One Year COVID-19 Pandemic Anniversary

The WHO classified the COVID-19 virus as a pandemic exactly one year ago. Today, the death toll worldwide is at around 2.6 million deaths, almost a quarter of those in the US. However, there is growing hope of decreasing cases, increased vaccine supplies, and doctors being more prepared to treat the disease.

Throughout the world, COVID-19 has infected over 118 million people. Almost every world leader has addressed the pandemic, though in varying degrees. The WHO remains cautious, however, after the backlash at the delay in classifying covid 19, initially not recommending masks for citizens. They have republished an older statement from March 11, 2020 warning countries of the growing danger of the newborn pandemic.
