Average daily COIVD-19 cases and hospitalizations are continuing to fall across the US, signalling that the omicron variant’s hold is weakening across the country.
According to John Hopkins university data, total confirmed cases on Saturday were slightly above 100,000, much lower than the over 800,000 cases on Jan. 16.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention COVID data tracker has shown that hospitalizations have dropped signifianctly from their peak in January.
However, it might be too soon to celebrate, as previous declines have been met with new peaks in the past year and a half. Officials in many states have been cutting down restrictions, with some states like Utah planning to start closing mass testing sites in April.
