FDA approves extended thawed Pfizer vaccine storage in refrigerators

Following recent approvals extending Pfizer-BioNtech COVID 19 vaccine storage and administration, the FDA has approved a longer maximum storage time at common refrigerator temperatures. This development could solve many problems poorer nations have with transporting and storing the vaccine.

Previously, the FDA only allowed thawed Pfizer COVID 19 vaccines to be stored at the typical 2°C to 8°C (35°F to 46°F) for five days, now extended to a month.

The new guidelines are based on data submitted by Pfizer in trials showing undiluted, thawed COVID 19 vaccines it produces being stable even a month after being stored in refrigerators.
