WHO: Europe surpasses 1 million COVID-19 deaths

The continent of Europe surpassed 1 million deaths due to COVID-19 on Thursday.

The news comes as efforts to vaccinate the population, especially those more vulnerable, are ramped up. Cases continue to stay at high levels, but deaths among seniors has dropped to a several-month low.

COVAX, a program funded by dozens of developed countries, which focuses on equitable vaccine distribution to countries who need it most, has increased distribution, with the Republic of Moldova receiving its first doses nearly a month ago.

Officials are hopeful, but difficulties and inconsistencies between different nations’ vaccine rules don´t help the situation, either.
